Our aim is to give you access to the best producers of Persian carpets today. While each city in Iran has its traditional designs and customs, there is a significant difference in quality between workshops.
For example, carpets from the Tabriz region range from mass-produced low-quality carpets to the finest silk pieces which take years to complete.
Recognizing the difference between the poorest and the best quality is relatively easy, but the task is much more difficult when trying to compare medium- to high-quality carpets. Subtle differences in the wool, workmanship, colour palettes or designs are often cues which enable you to assess a particular piece's worth.
Each weaving area in Iran has top-quality producers, or "Masterweavers", which stand apart from the rest. These workshops have stringent quality controls in place, and ensure that only the best wools and dyes are used for their carpets. Authentic carpets from one of the Masterweaver workshops give the buyer peace of mind that the piece is of superior quality and will be enjoyed for many generations with the proper care.
Carpets from these workshops are sought after worldwide, and supply is limited, due to the significant investment in time and effort to produce each piece. Any errors in the production of these carpets reduce their value, so utmost care must be taken in wool selection, tensioning of the warp and weft, the knotting, and the final shearing.
We continually search to find pieces from these Masterweaver workshops, as they represent the pinnacle in carpet production in Iran. In many cases, the workshops have a history of carpet making which spans multiple generations. Please see the links below for more details on the pieces we carry:
