Diurne is geared very much towards custom production of carpets based on client specifications. While our showroom room-sized samples are available for sale, most clients opt for a carpet which meets their exact size and colour requirements.
Due to the great number of choices and decisions to be made in producing a custom carpet, we work closely with the project designer or architect to ensure that the client is completely satisfied with their purchase.
The first step is to identify the design to be used as the basis for the project. Any carpet from any of the Diurne collections can be chosen, even if the original size or shape is not appropriate.
Once a design has been chosen, the designer/architect may choose to replace one or more of the colours in the carpet. Diurne has an extensive project library of colour combinations for each design, or the designer can select colours from our showroom's colour blanket.
The next decision is the quality and composition of materials. The client can decide between different knot densities, pile heights, loop vs. cut pile areas, amounts of wool and silk. These combinations allow the client to meet either budget or aesthetic considerations.
All of the information and the desired size is transmitted to Diurne, who then prepare the following for client approval:
- a line drawing scaled to the intended size of the carpet. Diurne may modify the design as part of this step to ensure the balance and harmony of the original design is still represented in the new size.
- a computer rendering of the carpet with the chosen colours.
- strands of wool for each of the chosen colours to match up to the line drawing.
Once the client is satisfied with these colours, the production of the carpet begins.
The timeframe from start to completion of the carpet varies on size and quality. An estimated delivery time is communicated to the client at the start of the process, and periodic updates are provided to keep the client informed.
The following original carpet from the Sol collection has been customized in both shape and colours for different client projects. The original is shown with the line drawing which highlights the colour areas that can be customized.
