Salari is proud to introduce The New Moderns Collection, a line of six exclusive designs by one of today's most exciting talents, Laura Kirar. Kirar joins Clodagh, Barbara Barry, Mark Pollack, Kevin Walz and Vicente Wolf in the ranks of elite contemporary designers partnering with Tufenkian to realize their unique visions.
Laura Kirar is founder and creative director of high-end interior design firm TRU Design (New York City) and product design and licensing house LKDL (Miami). She studied Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, then began designing for Holly Hunt. She moved to New York in 1995 and, after four years working as a residential furniture designer there, she founded TRU.
Since launching TRU, Kirar's projects have included designing the Jenne Maag store (one of the first high-end boutiques in New York's NoLita neighborhood), a spa rebranding project for Westin Hotels, and prestigious homes throughout the New York Metro area. Kirar places a high premium on sustainable design, environmentally responsible practices, and earth-friendly materials, making a partnership with Tufenkian a natural fit.
The New Moderns Collection is a product of Kirar's appreciation and fascination with contemporary art, and draws inspiration from the work of four modern artists: drawings by Sol LeWitt (which inspired the carpets Construct and Blipmarks), the paintings of Gerhardt Richter (Abstract, Fragment), the sculptures of Richard Serra (Archloop) and the audio compositions of John Cage (Chant). Overall, the collection takes a minimalist approach to creating geometric patterns that explore the shared strength and juxtaposed textures of wool and hemp.
